Alpha Phi raises $2,000 for national philanthropy

The Alpha Phi sorority raised $2,000 last week for the prevention and treatment of heart disease in women.

Alpha Phi has sponsored Heart Week three years in a row to raise money for its national philanthropy, the Alpha Phi Foundation, which provides funds for heart disease programs.

Heart Week events, which began March 1 and ended March 5, included a Healthy Heart BBQ, King of Hearts Crush Party and a dating game.

“The dating game allows all members of the Greek community to have a good time and enjoy themselves while raising money for a disease that touches almost everyone’s life,” Alpha Phi President Jillian Cooney said.

Five other sororities and nine fraternities participated in the dating game, which brought more than 300 members of Greek-letter groups to the Marvin Center Grand Ballroom.

Bachelors in the game competed for a date with the bachelorettes, who chose dates based on favorable answers to a series of questions.
