Senate candidate statements

Undergraduate – At-Large

Vick Jayadeva: Hi, my name is Vick Jayadeva and I am running for undergraduate senator at-large on the Students First team. Some of the major issues that I would like to address in the Senate are amnesty for certain drinking violations, an online waitlist for booked classes and all-hall access for GW students.

Ryan Sangster: I am in touch with the voices of students, including the Colonial Cabinet 2005, the GW men’s crew team and GW Trails. I understand the nature of this University. I bring to the table a new voice to help bring change to the SA Senate – I put Students First.

Michelle Tanney: Member of the Coalition for Reform. I have three years of experience in understanding what’s best for students and will strive to get at the core issues that affect the campus. With your support, we’ll shift the focus back to student life and building ties between the students and administration.

Undergraduate – Columbian College of Arts and Sciences

Matt Alderman: I will bring a new voice with a new approach to helping students. I believe in everything from increasing funding for student organizations to obtaining a 24-hour dining option on campus. A vote for me is a vote for change within the SA and student life as a whole.

Marc Abanto*

Nick D’Addario*

David Goodheart*

Jeff Goodman, CCAS-U: My name is Jeff Goodman. I’m running for SA Senate from the Columbian College because I want to fight for an SA that will put the interests of students first. With your help and your vote, next year we can have an SA that will serve students the right way.
Chris Heffron: I believe new faces need to be in the SA to make it more responsive to student needs. I have the same experiences that you have as CCAS students and will work on issues that are important to you. Elect me and put students first.

Tyler Hudson*

Josh Lasky: Seeking his third term in the Senate. Since his appointment as a first year non-voting Senator in October 2003, he has served on the Student Life Committee, working to improve life at GW by addressing dining services, residence hall life and student organization support structures.

David Magee*

Luke Moses*

Casey Rose: I am running to represent the voices of those in the Columbian College who have faced department closings, program cuts and other hardships recently; to represent the voices of the students, giving silenced voices a chance to collaborate with the administration when we can, and to stand against.

Chris Rotella: I am a freshman in the Columbian College, living in Thurston Hall. I am a member of SA staff, Residence Hall Association and many political groups. These experiences opened my eyes to the many problems on campus, and if I am elected, I will work for you to make GW a better place.

Michael Simon*

Joseph Ward III: As a CCAS-U Senator, I will propose legislation to reform the recycling system, using profits to fund student orgs. I also will propose a better system of communication between the Senate and students. Please check out my Web site, www.josephward3.com, and feel free to contact me anytime.

James Zarsadiaz: I will work so that: CCAS students are satisfied with their counseling, housing is up to code, our library is better respected, we have diverse dining options, organizations don’t have to deal with red tape, and that the SA is more supportive of each other, our campus activities and fellow peers.

Graduate – Elliott School of International Affairs

Heather Williams*

Undergraduate – ESIA

Daniel Balke: Whether it’s creating a holiday shuttle service to take students from campus to nearby airports for free, establishing a comprehensive student’s bill of rights or working to put a student representative on the Board of Trustees, the SA MUST STAND UP FOR STUDENTS. Vamos Daniel Balke for Elliott School Senator!

Carolena Boyce: I am driven to improve student life at GW, because it is what drives school spirit. From striving to improve the poor advising system in the Elliott School to getting better service at J Street, I know that I can work with others to make positive changes for students.

Pere Garlinghouse*

Elliot Gillerman: Elliot Gillerman believes that it’s time to put the “student” back in Student Association. Running for an Elliott School seat, Elliot seeks to draft a student bill of rights, improve the Elliott School advising system and to create clearer channel of communication between the administration and student body.

Joshua Greenstein: My platform is simple but creative. First, there should be a three-strike policy for students who need medical attention for alcohol. Second, GW-TV televises all Senate meetings and the Senate minutes should be posted on the SA Web site. Third, an external auditing system needs to be applied to the Senate.

Govind Kilambi: We must improve academics by having an online four-year plan to map out where students will take courses in the future. Advising must also be improved, in the Elliott School especially. Finally, student organizations must have sufficient funds to run programs and a robust co-sponsorship fund, from which to solicit supplemental funding.

Erin Lamb: This election is an opportunity for students to take back the Senate. The Senate can be an effective conduit for addressing student issues when used for students and not for political gain. Two of my biggest concerns are: the Community Host (CH) Program and an online class wait system.

Tony “Spilio” Spiliotopoulos*

Timothy Ziese: Believes decency, accountability, creativity, fairness and integrity are vital in creating an effective student government. Proposes a new GW Wiki, multiplying ESIA course offerings and introducing online mechanisms for student input into SA legislation. Let’s get things done! Vote Ziese!

Graduate – School of Engineering and Applied Science

Aleksandar Stefanovski*

Undergraduate – SEAS

Sarah Greenwood: I hope to represent the interests of all engineering students as SEAS-U senator, addressing such issues as a 24-hour computer lab, access to internship opportunities, and the feasibility
of professional advisors. I’ve been a voice in SEAS, now I want to be
your voice to the SA.

John Karp: As an observer to the SA for three years, I feel that I can make a difference putting what I’ve seen into action. I’ve been involved in the engineering school as president of GW’s Systems Engineering Society. Only by bringing in fresh faces can we finally put students first.
Eli Mazour: Eli Mazour is running for the SEAS-U seat for one reason: to fight for engineering students. After doing just that for the past year, he believes his work has just begun and that he can be even more effective if elected next year. For Eli, SEAS FIRST and politics last.

Graduate – School of Medicine and Health Sciences

Mohammed “Nomon” Ali*

Undergraduate – School of Business

Kirk E. Haldeman: This campaign is about the solutions of the future, not the conflicts of the past. As your senator, I promise to work in the spirit of cooperation in order to forgo to roadblocks to progress. Let’s stand together and make this election about us.

Jonathan Kramer*

Tanya Patwa: Vote Tanya Patwa for Business School senator: “Serving Students The Right Way.” As a senator, my main goals would be to get upperclassman involved in advising, improve the budget allotment, improve communications between SA and student organizations, get EmeRG. a dispatch center and get more venders on GWorld.

Derek Platt: After viewing the inner workings of the Senate firsthand, I feel more compelled to change it than ever. This is a student organization that has so much potential that I, and the rest of the Coalition for Reform, can deliver. Vote in a slate that is guaranteed to produce results.
