Students wins $20,000 on “The Price is Right”

Senior Adam Croce won $20,000 on the “The Price is Right” when the mens’ Ultimate Frisbee Team attended a taping of the game show Feb. 20.

The team was in San Diego for a tournament, which was cancelled due to rain, and decided to travel to the Los Angeles CBS studio. With raincoats made of trash bags, the 13 members of the team waited outside in the rain from 1 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. to get seats in the audience.

Sophomore Ben Detofsky said they had planned to attend a taping for months and that some of the team members are “pretty hard-core fans” of the show.

“Over the summer, some of us lived together in the city and we watched the show every morning,” Detofsky said.

Croce was the second person called from the audience to participate in the show, where contestants compete in a variety of games based on estimating product prices. Croce played Plinko – one of the most popular games on the show.

“We’ve been joking for months that if we got the game Plinko, it would just be the greatest thing ever,” Detofsky said. “When they said he was playing it we went insane. I’ve never been so excited in my life.”

The team made an agreement that Croce would split half of his prize money with his teammates, who will likely put the money toward the Ultimate Frisbee team, Detofsky said.

“We definitely had high hopes for one of us being called up,” Detofsky said.

Host Bob Barker introduced the team to the audience and said they were the first Ultimate Frisbee team to attend a taping of the show.

Detofsky added that the team was enthusiastic throughout their experience at the studio, making friends with other audience members.

“After the show, we had people thank us for being so much fun,” Detofsky said.
