Iron Chef competition makes money, peanut butter dishes

The Alpha Epsilon Pi fraternity sponsored an Iron Chef cooking competition for sororities last month, raising about $400 for an Ethiopian Community Center in Israel.

Each of the five sororities that participated in the Nov. 21 event received a box of general ingredients along with the main ingredient, peanut butter, which teams were required to include in their dishes, Alpha Epsilon Pi philanthropy chair Greg Dubin said.

The teams had to use these ingredients to cook an appetizer, entr?e and dessert in an hour and a half. They were judged on originality, taste and presentation.

Sigma Kappa won the competition with their Asian salad with peanut vinaigrette dressing, and a noodle dish with chicken and peanut sauce. The sorority will receive a dinner for 10 prepared by Alpha Epsilon Pi members.

Other participants included the Alpha Epsilon Phi, Alpha Delta Pi, Delta Gamma and Sigma Delta Tau sororities, which prepared dishes such as Pad Thai with peanut sauce, chicken with peanut dipping sauce and a peanut butter layer cake.

The Ethiopian Community Center, the fraternity’s official philanthropy, helps Jewish Ethiopian immigrants adjust to modern Israeli society.
