Women’s soccer drops season opener to VCU

The GW women’s soccer team is off to a slow start this season after losing 4-0 to Virginia Commonwealth Aug. 27.

In their season opener, the Colonials struggled on offense, only mustering two shots on goal.

VCU struck early when Solfrid Anderson headed a ball past GW goalkeeper Anna Handzlik in the seventh minute of the first half. The Rams built a 2-0 lead when Jen Parsons scored at the 20:10 mark.

VCU added two more scores in the second half to finish off GW.

The Colonials will look to get back on track this week when they take on Quinnipiac University Friday at noon at the Hoya Classic Tournament at Georgetown University.
