Lacrosse continues streak

The GW lacrosse team beat Massachusetts and La Salle this weekend to remain undefeated in the Atlantic 10. The Colonials used six goals from freshman Laura Hostetler to extend their winning streak to five games, the longest in the program’s three-year history.

On Sunday, GW came back from a 7-3 deficit and edged the Minutewomen 11-10. Hostetler scored four goals, including the game-tying and game-winning goal, which came with 2:04 left in the second half. Junior Heidi Mayer also scored two goals against UMass (2-8, 1-2 A-10) in the win.

The Colonials defeated La Salle 14-7 Friday using a balanced attack to overtake the Explorers (3-7, 0-2 A-10). Seven Colonials scored two goals each, including Hostetler, who notched her 25th and 26th goals of the season. Freshman goalie Emily Fortunato stopped 11 of 23 shots in the win.

Hostetler’s strong weekend came on the heels of receiving her fourth A-10 Rookie of the Week award this season.

The Colonials play at Duquesne Friday. Sunday they return to Mount Vernon to take on St. Bonaventure at noon.
