Greek Briefs

Fraternity to host risk management speaker

Sigma Phi Epsilon alumnus Mitch Crane will discuss drinking and hazing Monday, which at least five Greek-letter organizations were cited for in the past year.

Crane will speak at 9 p.m. in the Marvin Center Continental Ballroom. He has been practicing law since 1977 and a district judge in Chester County, Penn., for six years.

Sigma Phi Epsilon is currently on social probation because of an unregistered party last semester. However, the speaker is not part of the fraternity’s requirements to be let off probation.

Delta Tau Delta fraternity was kicked off campus last month because of allegations of hazing. Alpha Epsilon Phi, Phi Sigma Kappa, Kappa Sigma and Sigma Delta Tau are also on social probation.

“It’ll be a way to open people’s eyes to certain challenges in the Greek community,” said Russ Tanguay, vice president of communication for Sigma Phi Epsilon. “It’s going to address perception (of Greek-letter life) versus reality.”
