Baseball opener rained out

The GW baseball team will have to wait until next week to open its regular season after Wednesday’s game at Norfolk State University was rained out. The Colonials will now open the season with a three-game series against No. 19 Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton, Fla., on Friday, Feb. 20.

After ongoing wet weather last spring forced many postponements and cancellations, the Colonials have scheduled 61 games this season, five above the NCAA limit, to allow for cancellations.

Men’s tennis wins a pair

Senior Matt Hane led the GW men’s tennis team to its first two wins of the season last weekend as the Colonials beat Morgan State University 7-0 and the U.S. Naval Academy 4-3.

Hane won twice at No. 1 singles, beating MSU’s Marcus Ngbea 6-2, 6-2, and Navy’s Stanley Kahl 6-3, 6-7 (4), 6-0. The lefty also teamed up with junior Jake Jopling at No. 1 doubles to win a pair of matches.

Junior Matt Treadgold won both of his matches at No. 2 singles and senior Brett Warner won at No. 4 singles against MSU and No. 5 singles against Navy.

GW will travel to face Rhode Island Friday and Boston College Saturday.
