Varsity Roundup

Men’s tennis remains winless

Old Dominion swept the GW men’s tennis team 7-0 Friday. The No. 3 doubles team of junior Matt Treadgold and freshman Daniel Balke won the only match of the day for the Colonials, but only the top two doubles teams and top five singles matches count in the final score.

No. 1 singles player Matt Hane played a close match with the 13th-ranked player in the country, Old Dominion’s Izak Vander Merwe. Hane lost in a thirdset tiebreaker, 5-7, 7-5, 6-7 (5).

The men will face James Madison Friday at 4 p.m.

Women’s tennis falls to ODU

The GW women’s tennis team lost to Old Dominion 6-1 Friday. At No. 6 singles, freshman Anne Watkins was the only Colonial who picked up a victory.

At the No. 3 spot, junior Sevla Gonca fell in a tough three-set match to Fernada Luiz, 4-6, 6-2, 2-6. The Colonials will face Richmond Saturday at 4 p.m.
