SA sets election dates

Student Association, Program Board and Marvin Center Governing Board elections will be held Feb. 25 and 26, the SA announced Tuesday.

The SA finalized election preparations by appointing its representatives for the Joint Election committee and approving the JEC charter. The JEC charter governs SA, PB and MCGB elections.

The SA also announced that petitions for students running for SA elections are due Feb. 6. They can be picked up in Marvin Center room 424.

While several senators tried to reduce election day campaigning restrictions, the SA voted against the amendment. The JEC currently has rules governing where candidates can rally support on election days.

Freshmen John Plack and Matthew Steinhelfer were appointed as the SA’s representatives to the JEC. Plack served as associate parliamentarian for the SA this year, but Steinhelfer has no prior SA experience.

Dean of Freshman speaks to SA

Dean of Freshmen Fred Siegel discussed his vision of the Mount Vernon Campus Tuesday at the second annual Mount Vernon Senate meeting.

Siegel discussed future plans for the campus, including housing upperclassmen there, bringing in Living and Learning Communities and increasing use of academic and sports facilities.

Sen. Nisha Singh (G-ESIA) asked if graduate students could live on Mount Vernon, adding that it is difficult for them to find housing in D.C.

Siegel responded that if a “significant number” of graduate students expressed interest, the students could possibly reside there in the future.

“I think if you come back here in a few years youwill see a completely different campus,” he said.
