Newsstand opens in 1957 E Street

Students living in or near GW’s newest residence hall now have a more convenient place to shop on campus – Gallery News and More. The newsstand, market and dry cleaner is located in the residential portion of the 1957 E Street building.

The shop offers items including prepared and packaged food, drinks, medicine, personal care products, newspapers and magazines. Colonial Cash is accepted.

Manager Ken Kim said the store, which opened right before winter break, had slow business in December because most students were on vacation. He said business started to pick up after students returned to campus, and he expects the majority of customers to be members of the University community.

When the University decided to construct 1957 E Street, officials agreed to add commercial space to appease community members. Gallery News and More opened after the residential portion of the building was in operation for about a year and a half.

Kim said the store is unaffiliated with the University and is not part of a chain. He said University officials said they would help advertise the store, and he is planning to hand out fliers.
