Swimming, diving teams drop two

The GW swimming and diving teams each lost by large margins to Duke University and East Carolina University Saturday in a double dual meet at East Carolina.

Duke beat the women 162-78 and the men 174-63. East Carolina beat the women 143.5-83.5 and the men 133-77. GW only won two events, as sophomore Maggie Moss took the 200-yard backstroke and senior Kristen Fagley won the 500-yard freestyle event.

Moss, coming off an Atlantic 10 Performer of the Week award, also placed fourth in the 200-yard individual medley, while Fagley finished second in the 200-yard freestyle.

Mark Adam had the highest finish for the men, taking second in the 200-yard backstroke. Sean Flaherty and Bryan Feretti each took third place in the 1,000-yard freestyle and 500-yard freestyle, resepectively.

The losses moved the women to 2-2 on the season, while the men fell to 1-4. GW’s next meet is the George Mason Invitational Friday through Sunday in Fairfax, Va.
