Rowing teams win Head of the Occoquan

The GW crew teams ended their fall season on a high note last weekend at the Head of the Occoquan in Fairfax Station, Va., where both the men’s and women’s varsity rowing squads finished first.

The Colonials won the Women’s Varsity Eight in a time of 16:23, while the men won in 14:13. The GW men’s and women’s novice teams both won their respective races as well.

Over 50 collegiate and club teams participated in the regatta. The novice squads will compete in the Belly of the Carnegie Sunday in Princeton, N.J. The varsity teams will now spend the winter training for their spring season.

Men’s squash opens season with win

The GW men’s squash team opened its second season of competition with a 7-2 win over the University of Virginia on Sunday in Annapolis, Md.

The Colonials won in each of the first five spots. In the ninth spot, senior captain Jake Greenbaum won, 3-0, while sophomore Ben Hoefs beat Virginia’s Elliot Poole in the third position, 3-2.

Junior Tyler Wolas (fourth position) and sophomores Greg Vernick and Dhruv Singh also had successful starts to the season.

The men play next at the U.S. Naval Academy on Nov. 15, when they will face Denison and No. 20 Stanford.
