Tennis teams knock off Hoyas

The GW men and women’s tennis teams both defeated cross-town rival Georgetown on Friday.

The men defeated the Hoyas for the third year in a row, 5-2, gaining all five points in singles competition. Senior Matt Hane and junior Matt Treadgold continued an undefeated fall season in doubles play.

Despite windy weather conditions, the men earned singles victories from Hane, Treadgold, sophomores Jake Jopling and Marius Weigart and senior Brett Warner.

The women won 7-0, winning all six singles points and all three doubles points.

“It was a good win,” freshman Mara Frisch said. “I think everyone was really on top of their games. (Junior) Natasha (Bode) and (senior) Nazli (Gencsoy) played especially well.”

The women compete in the Old Dominion Tournament in Norfolk, Va., this Friday and Saturday.

The men will complete their fall season when they compete in the Omni Hotel Tournament Thursday through Saturday.
