Staff Editorial: Fan Fare: good riddance

Fan Fare, the abandoned dining option that served ballpark foods in the Marvin Center ground floor, will go down as one of the worst food venues in recent GW history. Luckily for students, GW will soon replace it with Montague’s Deli – the old J Street favorite replaced by the Salad Garden this fall. While we question how Dining Services ever thought students would be interested in walking with a big pink swab of cotton candy on the way to class, the department should be commended for quickly responding to student feedback on the matter.

Dining Services should be lauded in general for its commitment to responding to student needs. Working to put a 24-hour 7-Eleven in Mitchell Hall and offering feedback through a survey are very positive steps. However, we would still like to see more feedback opportunities made available to students concerning new restaurants in J Street and in other facilities. Students should definitely have input on future dining venues in the Ivory Towers residence hall and the Elliott School building, both of which are set to have commercial space.

Given newfound competition for patronage thanks to Colonial Cash, Dining Services has realized it must live up to rising expectations by accepting more student feedback. While we applaud Dining Services for replacing the unpopular Fan Fare with the beloved Montague’s quickly, officials need to keep students’ needs and desires in mind when bringing new venues on campus.
