Monroe not drafted

Recent graduate Chris Monroe, the all-time leading scorer in GW men’s basketball history, was not selected in the NBA Draft June 26. Before the draft, Monroe reportedly worked out for the Washington Wizards along with fellow local standout Steve Blake of Maryland. The Wizards ended up taking Blake in the second round with the 38th pick overall.

The only player in the Atlantic 10 to hear his name called on draft night was rival David West of Xavier, who was taken with the 18th pick by the New Orleans Hornets. Monroe told The Hatchet in March he would attend graduate school if his professional basketball aspirations are unsuccessful.

Osborne honored by A-10
Men’s soccer player Matt Osborne was named Atlantic 10 Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year last month after graduating magna cum laude from GW in May. The exercise science major finished with a 3.73 GPA while leading the Colonials to their first A-10 men’s soccer title in school history last fall.
