SA to file brief on behalf of GW in court
The Student Association announced its intent this week to file an amicus brief for the University in its suit against the D.C. Board of Zoning Adjustment. The legal brief states the SA supports GW and notes that the BZA’s requirement that GW house 70 percent of students within campus boundaries violates the D.C. Human Rights Act. The act bans discrimination on the basis of “matriculation” as well other factors such as race, religion and disability. The BZA does not allow GW to count HOVA, City Hall, Pennsylvania House and the Aston as on-campus housing.

“My job is to represent my constituents, and every student I know is outraged by the court’s ruling,” said Sen. Omar Woodard (U-ESIA). “It is not and should not be in the authority of the BZA to regulate what can be counted as University housing. That authority belongs to the city government, not the BZA, whose current ruling harms students.”

The brief is expected to be filed by Wednesday evening.

SA celebrates Diversity Month
Student Association has planned a series of events to mark Diversity Month in April. These include forums, a student leaders roundtable discussion on April 9 and a diversity barbecue on April 25. More information can be found at sa.gwu.edu.

Robinson touts campus dining improvements
The Student Association released a memo this week detailing the accomplishments of the Dining Services Commission under SA President Phil Robinson’s administration. They included such things as the recently extended hours at Taco Bell and other J Street locations, expanded menu options at all campus dining locations and the recent “Meat Out” project, which encouraged students to eat a vegetarian diet for a day.
