BEST HOT DOG AND LATE NIGHT FOOD

Manouchehr “Manouch” Nava: From his cart located outside Tower Records on 21st Street, Manouch offers hungry students late-night snacks, otherwise lacking on GW’s campus. Nava has been selling his hot dogs and pretzels in Foggy Bottom for more than 18 years, despite consistent fines from the city for disregarding late-night vending limits until 1a.m. Fridays and Saturdays and 10 p.m. weeknights.

Best Italian restaurant:
Famous Luigi’s
Located at 1132 19th St. N.W. the restaurant boasts its pizzas served with a choice of 32 different toppings from chicken sausage to calamari to pine nuts. Entrees range from $9.50 for spaghetti and meatballs to $16 for “pescatore,” shellfish and spicy tomato sauce over linguini.

Best movie theater:
Loews Georgetown. The area’s newest movie theater, located on K Street between 31st Street and Wisconsin Avenue, Loews seats 3,000 in its state-of-the-art facility. It is the largest theater in the District with 14 screens, stadium seating and digital projection and sound. The theater offers student tickets with valid GWorld for $7.50 and an expanded concession stand with pizza and chicken fingers.

Best academic building:
Media and Public Affairs. The $24 million facility, which houses the School of MEdia and Public Affairs and the Dimock Gallery, opened in spring 2001 with state-of-the-art technology. Most classrooms are wired with fiber-optic ports to allow for Internet connections, not to mention the comgy swivel charis. The buildings Jack Morton Auditorium hosts live braodcasts of CNN’s “Crossfire”.
Best place in Gelman:
Sixth floor stacks. The University replaced professors’ offices with plush red chairs and fluffy couches in Gelman’s sixth floor stacks in 1996. The soft lighting and cozy seating arrangements make it easier to doze on this floor than study, one of the reasons why its often the first floor to fill up during exam times.

It’s a Tie! Tequila Grill: Stop by the mexian restaurant-by-day, bar-by-night establishment at 1990 K St. N.W. Monday through Friday between 4 and 7:30 p.m. for happy hour specials. Drink deals include $2.50 regular margaritas, $2.95 fruit margaritas, $2 domestic beers (changes daily) and free appetizers.

Lindy’s Red Lion: Students do not have to go far to enjoy this bar’s happy hour specials. Located at 2000 Pennsylvania Ave., Lindy’s offers $1 off all drinks, $2 off pitchers and $1 off selected appetizers Monday through Firday 4 to 8 p.m.

Boasting its Moose Track ice cream, a mixture of mini peanut butter cups, fudge and vanilla ice cream, this 2000 Pennsylvania Ave. ice cream parlor offers 20 ice cream flavors and six types of frozen yogurt. Other specialties include cotton candy ice cream and the “back to school” offer that runs year-round, a heated brownie topped with vanilla ice cream for $4.

Best GW athletic team:
The Women’s Basketball. The Women’s Basketball team, currently 19-11, has made nine NCAA appearances in the past 12 years and has been one of the top 25 teams for more than a decade. Junior Ugo Oha and senior Cathy Joens both scored their 1,000th points this season. Now if they could only get that many people at a game.
Best steak house:
Smith & Wollensky’s. Dry-aged steaks are this meat lover’s restaurant’s specialty. Steaks are hung in a meat locker for 18 to 21 days as part of the curing process. Entrees range from $19 to $35.
