Women rowers place 26th

The GW women placed 26th in the Championship Eight, an event comprised of the top 40 women’s crews at the Head of the Charles regatta last weekend.

Head Coach Steve Peterson said the team fell short of its goal to be in the top 20, but did beat league rivals U.S. Naval Academy, Rutgers University and Georgetown, and were only seconds behind Columbia University and Boston College.

“Those three crews are rivals of ours, especially Georgetown, and beating them says we are doing things right. Ours is a relatively young crew so the more confidence we can get, the better,” Peterson said.

The team showed improvement since its last race, the Head of the Potomac, where they suffered a 15-second loss to Georgetown. On the Charles, however, the Colonials finished 16 seconds ahead of the same Georgetown crew.

“I’m psyched to beat Georgetown because I don’t like to consider Georgetown even a factor, so beating them by almost 20 seconds is putting them back in their place, in my mind,” Hueller said.
