CWPA round up

Southern Division
1) Princeton University
2) U.S. Naval Academy
3) Johns Hopkins University
4) Bucknell University
5) GW

Not surprisingly, the U.S. Naval Academy and Princeton University are the teams to beat in the Collegiate Water Polo Association Southern Division this year, ranked ninth and 17th in the country, respectively, by the U.S. Water Polo rankings. GW is unranked.

Last season Princeton overpowered Navy to win the Southern Division championship, but Navy won the previous year and both teams look to be one and two this season as well. Princeton returns three seniors and four juniors to their squad, including the 2001 Eastern Championship MVP Kevin Foster, while Navy returns five seniors and five juniors to their squad. Two Navy players were recently selected to play for the United States Senior National team in an exhibition game.

GW already played Princeton and Bucknell at the CWPA tournament and lost both matches. The Colonials take on Navy and Johns Hopkins at home Oct. 3 and 9, respectively.
