Freshman Nick Koken threw a seven-inning no-hitter in the Colonials 17-0 win over Mt. St. Mary’s at Barcroft Park Thursday. The right-hander struck out six and did not walk a single batter his first collegiate win.
Koken fell one pitch short of a perfect game- he hit the Mountaineers shortstop Jamion Christian with a pitch in the fourth inning, allowing him to advance.
Prior to the game, Koken had pitched only five innings in five appearances. He had given up only three runs and his 2.25 ERA ranks third among teammates who have pitched more than one inning.
The game was the first of a double-header with the Mountaineers and was delayed for 40 minutes because of lightning during the sixth inning. GW won the second game 8-3.
