Women’s water polo faces Michigan

The women’s water polo team earned the eighth seed at this weekend’s 12-team Eastern Championships in Princeton, N.J. The selection was a result of the Colonials fifth-place finish at last weekend’s Southern Championships. The winner of Easterns receives an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament.

As the eighth seed, the Colonials will play top-seeded Michigan, winner of Southerns, in the first round Friday. The Colonials have not yet faced Michigan this season. In second-round action, the Colonials are set to face No. 12 Villanova Saturday, a team that GW has beaten twice already this season, 10-5 at home March 9 and 12-8 on the road April 9. The Colonials enter the tournament with the best record in their three-year history, at 16-7, 7-2. –Lauren Silva
