Letters: Aware of fee

In response to the April 15 staff editorial (“Paying for Prestige”), I would like to know why the editorial board thinks School of Media and Public Affairs students do not know why they are getting charged the extra fees.

Being an electronic media major, I am constantly exposed to the vast improvements of the electronic media program since the MPA building opened. Many students not in SMPA do not see the highly technical equipment used by the students in the upper levels of the building, levels non-SMPA students are not allowed to enter.

In addition to the advanced equipment used by electronic media students, the selectivity of the three programs forces the students to get to know their professors on a more personal level than many of the other majors offered at GW.

I have to admit, I understand the gripes of the journalism and political communications majors about the fees. That is an issue GW has to address. But there are many opportunities given exclusively to SMPA students, opportunities that can only increase with the popularity of the program.
