Women’s tennis swept by Maryland

The University of Maryland swept the GW women’s tennis team 7-0 in three and a half hours Wednesday at the Mount Vernon Campus. The loss moves GW’s record to 3-5.

Maryland overpowered the Colonials in both singles and doubles competition. Nazli Gencsoy and Katarina Stastny played GW’s strongest match at No.2 doubles but suffered an 8-5 loss to Emily DeCamilla and Marta Jedrzejak.

At No.1 singles, Lindy First was swept 6-0, 6-0 by Delila Causevic. Natasha Bode was defeated 6-1, 6-1 at No. 4 singles. Junior Samantha Fisher, making a comeback from an elbow injury, was defeated at No. 6 singles 6-2, 6-1.

The Colonials travel to Oxford Athletic Club in Pittsburgh Saturday morning for a match against West Virginia.
