Women’s tennis loses to UMBC

The GW women’s tennis team suffered a 5-2 loss against visiting Maryland-Baltimore County on Sunday. The loss drops GW’s record to 2-3 and is the team’s second-straight loss.

Despite winning two of three doubles matches, GW suffered losses in all singles matches except No. 3, where Nazli Gencsoy defeated Tia Kaasalainen 6-2, 6-2.

Sophomore Lindy First, at No. 1 singles, and junior Samantha Fisher, at No. 5, were able to extend their singles matches to three sets before losing. Anita Pushpanathan defeated First 7-5, 4-6, 6-4. Aimee Lim defeated Fisher 6-4, 4-6, 6-4.

Tracy Wei and Lindy First defeated UMBC’s Pushtanathan and Jana Karaskora 8-4. Gencsoy and Katarina Stastny won their No. 2 doubles match 9-8, narrowly edging UMBC’s Kaasalainen and Khavalina.
