WEB EXCLUSIVE: Women’s Swimming takes third

The GW womens swim team took third place at the Patriot Invitational Nov. 19 in Fairfax, Va. behind strong performances by sophomores Ruth Dubyel and Kristen Fagley. The men placed sixth out of seven teams.

George Mason took first in the womens final team results with UNC-Wilmington in second. Rounding out the top three for the men were UNC-Wilmington, George Mason and Georgetown.

Dubyel took first place in the 200-yard backstroke in 2:07.41 and placed second in the 100-yard butterfly in 0:58.24. Fagley, who remains undefeated in the 500 yard freestyle this season, took first in the event in 5:03.70, her fastest time of the season. Fagley also took second in the 200 yard freestyle in 1:55.72.

Freshman Kristen Rasmuson continued her success in her first season, finishing second in the 100-yard backstroke in 1:05.60.

For the men, junior David Dillehay took second in the 500-yard freestyle in 4:37.02, the second fastest time at the Patriot Invitational. Dillehay was honored with Atlantic 10 performer of the week for the 19th, his first A-10 honor this season.

The Colonials return to the Smith Center Saturday when they take on Old Dominion. Diving begins at 11 a.m. and swimming at 1 p.m.
