Letter to the Editor: Broke no longer

Sometimes there are sentiments of discontent when issues are misconstrued between two different organizations. I am a GW women’s rugby team player and an Elliott School Senator in the SA. As a member of both these groups, I feel I should clarify any misconceptions concerning the editorials flying around the women’s rugby team and the Student Association.

Unbeknownst to both Bonnie Morris and David Burt, steps had been taken by both the rugby team and the SA Finance Committee to collect enough money to buy jerseys for the team. In defense of the team, we had begun fund-raising activities this semester while also approaching the SA and filling out the co-sponsorship forms. In defense of the SA, the finance committee worked tirelessly trying to meet every group’s requests for funding. The committee has been more than willing to co-sponsor any events, activities or the purchase of specific items like jerseys.

Committee members were more than willing to assist the rugby team in its own endeavor. But given this semester’s craziness, I think it is understandable how some things may fall through the cracks.

The women’s rugby team appreciates our faculty adviser’s vigor and support. It is rare to find some one who cares so much about a club sport that she comes to our practices, comes to our games and gives us a voice when we need it the most.
