Letter to the Editor: Gelman scholar

Jason Safdie’s excellent article about Quadir Amiryar in the Oct. 8 issue of The Hatchet (“Professor promotes Afghanistan peace,” p. 7) omitted one very important fact about his subject. Although Dr. Amiryar has taught courses as a part-time adjunct faculty member in recent years, his primary work for the past 22 years has been in Gelman Library, where he currently is head of the Interlibrary Loan Department.

During this time, he has attained a master’s in philosophy, another master’s from the law school in international and comparative law and a Ph.D. in international affairs. He serves as a consultant to the governments of Tajikistan and Uzbekistan in drafting their national constitutions. He is also fluent in Turkish, Persian, Pashto, Tajik and Dari. We at Gelman Library are very proud of what Dr. Amiryar has accomplished outside the library, and yet he is only one among many extraordinarily talented Gelman Library staff who serve GW students and faculty every day.
