Basketball releases schedules

The University announced the 2001-02 women’s basketball schedule last week. The highlight of this year’s schedule is a home contest against the six-time national champion Tennessee Lady Vols Nov. 27.

In addition to regular Atlantic 10 action against conference rivals Temple, Duquesne and Xavier, the Colonials will take on a number of non-conference opponents such as cross-town rival Georgetown.

GW will compete in two road tournaments. The Colonials will participate in the Gene Hackerman Rice Invitational Nov. 30- Dec. 1 and the Pepperdine Holiday Classic Dec. 28-29.

GW starts A-10 play Jan. 3 against La Salle at home. The full schedule is available at www.gwhatchet.com.

The men’s schedule, released Sept 19, includes one nationally televised game and seven regional telecasts. The Temple game, at the Smith Center on Feb. 9, will be nationally televised on ESPN.

The men will take on some familiar A-10 rivals as well as non conference opponents Yale University and Boston University. The Colonials will compete in the Red Auerbach Colonial Classic and the BB&T Classic before conference play begins.
