Sports Brief: Coaches association to award scholarships

Anthony Ragliani, a GW-recruited outfielder from Indiana, Pa., is in the running for a $5,000 scholarship from the National High School Athletic Coaches Association. One student-athlete from each high school All-America team will receive the award June 27.

Raglani, who will join the GW baseball team in the fall, was named to the to the United States Navy Scholastic All-America Baseball team this year.

Ragliani is also one of 11 high school seniors representing 28 states selected to the National First Team. To be nominated, a high school student must be a varsity starter or key reserve who maintains a minimum 3.2.grade point average and is considered a leader in his or her respective communities.

GW recruited four other players. The team finished last season with a school record 38 wins and came within one game of advancing to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 1992.
