Charlene Drew Jarvis, born in D.C., has served as president of Southeastern University in Southwest D.C. since 1996. The first woman to hold the position, Jarvis has developed a theme for her administration: “Educating technology, business and government leaders for the region and the world.”

Since Jarvis took the helm at Souteastern, enrollment at Southeastern has doubled and the university has developed multiple partnerships with local businesses that foster community involvement and promote educational advancements, such as D.C. Link and Learn, a technology training center two blocks from the campus.

A former scientist and D.C. City Council member, Jarvis serves on the executive committee of the Federal City Council, is president-elect of the D.C. Chamber of Commerce and was recently elected to the Greater Washington Board of Trade. Jarvis will chair the Community Business Partnership Committee for the Board of Trade. She is also a newly elected member of the BB&T Regional Bank’s Washington office Board of Directors.
