Lacrosse places fourth at JMU

The GW women’s lacrosse finished an impressive fourth place at the James Madison University Tournament last weekend in Harrisonburg, Va.

The Colonials (7-6) lost their final game Sunday to the University of Virginia 5-1. GW reached its match with the Cavaliers after winning four of five earlier round games.

GW knocked out host JMU 3-2 to reach the final game.

“It was an amazing game with great play from our defensive line by Raffealla Ceriello, Jackie Ackerley and Mary Corbet,” team member Lisa Pagano said.

The Colonials advanced to Sunday’s games with a 3-1 victory over East Carolina University and a 7-6 win over University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill on Saturday. GW lost to Syracuse University Saturday morning 9-3, but beat Virginia Tech University in its first game Friday night.

“Overall it was a good tournament and a good experience,” Pagano said. “We grew as a team and accomplished what needed to be done and we are happy with where we ended up.”

GW prepares to take on cross-town rival Georgetown next Friday at 5 p.m. at Haynes Point.
