Gymnastics falls at Towson

The recent Jessica Mantak show, which earned the GW sophomore this week’s Atlantic 10 Performer of the Week, was not enough to lead the GW gymnastics team over host Towson University Wednesday night. Towson defeated GW for the first time in three meetings this season, 194.775-194.175.

Mantak, who won the award for the first time this season, ranks among A-10 leaders in all four events and is now second in the all-around.

Kristen Presutti won the all-around, edging out Mantak
39.250-39.100. Presutti won the vault and floor exercise, while Mantak placed second on the balance beam and third on the bars and floor exercise. Towson’s Jen Baierlein finished third overall with second place finishes on the bars and floor exercise.

GW’s tough loss comes just days after the Colonials lost to host West Virginia University. Mantak won the all-around with a 39.275 score in Sunday’s 196.075-194.025 loss to the Mountaineers. West Virginia’s Teshawne Johnson scored a perfect 10.000 in the vault and floor exercise, and the meet’s second place all-around finisher, Dinorh Boyd, posted a perfect score on the floor.

The Colonials will host Yale University and the University of North Carolina Saturday night at the Smith Center.
