WEB UPDATE: Kapoor leads presidential race, Singer ahead for EVP

Roger Kapoor has an early lead in the Student Association presidential race after a hand count of about 15 percent of the votes Tuesday night, according to Joint Elections Committee estimates.

With his current total of 321 votes, Kapoor holds about 57 percent of the vote. Presidential candidates need 40 percent of the total vote to win. Bob Simon has 174 votes, or about 30 percent of the total, and Dan Loren has 69 votes.

The vice presidential count is closer, with Josh Singer tallying 208 votes, ahead of Mike Pellegrino with 167 and J.P. Blackford with 139.

For the two undergraduate at-large Senate seats, GWUnited candidates Raj Parekh and Matt Hartgarten hold a slim lead after the hand count.

JEC members conducted hand-counted ballots that could not be interpreted by an automated scanner, including blank ballots, ones that were not completely filled in and ballots with write-in candidates.

JEC members said they will count the ballots tallied by the computer Wednesday morning before their scheduled press conference in the Hippodrome at 12:30 p.m. to announce the winners.

If a run-off election is required, students will vote again March 27 and 28, after Spring Break, according to a Sunday press release.
