Brief: Professor hosts book signing

University professor Amitai Etzioni will host a discussion and signing of his latest book Next: The Road to the Good Society at the GW Bookstore Feb. 12.

The event will be broadcast on C-SPAN and Etzioni, director of GW’s Institute for Communitarian Policy Studies, will discuss the need for a new political agenda.

The main theme of the book is communitarianism, defined as “a social movement that places the importance of society ahead of the unfettered rights of the individual,” according to a University press release.

In Next, Etzioni argues that both political parties ignore important issues today, such as the amount of government regulation and how to make politics less corrupt. Etzioni calls for greater political and community involvement as a solution to these problems.

In the current era of bipartisanship and economic prosperity, Next evokes hope for the end of scarcity and the cycle of materialism, according to the press release.
