Wei beats teammate Gencsoy in finals

It was quite a weekend for the GW women’s tennis team, which dominated the 11th-annual D.C. Metropolitan Intercollegiate Tennis Championships. The team was so strong that Group A singles winner Tracy Wei had to defeat teammate freshman Nazli Gencsoy in the finals round in the tournament that featured American, Georgetown, Howard and the University of Maryland-Baltimore County. Gencsoy reached the final round match with Wei by upsetting top-seeded Irina Bovina from American. The finals match-up was not the only GW pairing, as Gencsoy defeated teammate Lindy First in the semi-final round. GW also won the Group B singles as well as the Group A and B doubles consolation finals.

Warner wins Atlantic 10 Rookie honors

GW women’s soccer player Kim Warner earned her first Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week award after scoring two goals last weekend against Fordham. It was the redshirt freshman’s first multi-goal game. Warner has a team-high 25 shots, and her return to the lineup is a big reason for the team’s strong 3-1 start in A-10 play.
