Cross country teams post solid performances

In their last meet before the GW Invitational next weekend, both the men’s and women’s cross country teams showed solid performances at the University of Maryland Saturday. The men’s team, led by David Talbird and Darrell Andruski, placed third overall behind Penn State and American universities.

Talbird’s time (26:34:40) was good enough for a third-place finish, 19 seconds behind Penn State’s John McGrorey (26:15:70) who won the meet. Andruski finished only four seconds behind Talbird, securing a fourth-place finish.

The women were equally impressive Saturday, finishing third overall behind Maryland and American. The Colonial women were led by sophomore Mackenzie Jessen, who finished 13th with a time of 21:14:40, less than two minutes behind individual winner Sasha Scott (19:20:60). GW’s second runner to cross the finish line was 14th-place finisher Jenee Petersen at 21:15:80.

This was the last race for both teams before the GW Invitational, which will be held next Saturday at Bull Run Park in Centerville, Va. The women’s race starts at 4 p.m., and the men will begin at 4:30 p.m.
