GW sophomore SirValient Brown was named a Top 50 preseason candidate for the John R. Wooden 2000-2001 All-America team, according to an August 25 announcement from the Los Angeles Athletic Club.
The 10 Wooden Award winners will be announced in March, and one player will be named the nation’s Most Outstanding Collegiate Basketball Player of the Year. University of Cincinnati’s Kenyon Martin won the award last season.
Brown was a six-time Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week last season and averaged 24.6 points a game. He fell just one-tenth of a point shy of becoming the first freshman to lead Division I in scoring last season.
Brown was named an Associated Press honorable mention All-America player last season. Shawnta Rogers received the honor the year before Brown in 1999.
