University of Richmond joins A-10 Conference

The University of Richmond accepted an invitation May 26 to become a full member of the Atlantic 10 Conference beginning in the 2001-02 academic year. The Spiders, which have been part of the Colonials Athletic Association since its inception in 1985, will remain a part of the CAA until next year. Richmond was extended the invitation at the A-10’s annual meeting in Boca Raton, Fla.

The Spiders already play football in the A-10 and will replace Virginia Tech, which begins full membership in the Big East Conference in the fall.
