From his center position, Steve Korchek became GW’s only football Southern Conference Player of the Year in 1953.
Korchek, also a catcher in baseball, was honorable mention on current baseball coach Tom Walter’s All-Century Team. He is only one of three Colonials to make the major leagues, where he caught for the Washington Senators. He was GW’s baseball coach in the 1960s.
