THE GREATEST GW ATHLETES OF ALL TIME: No. 10 — Hank Bunnel

10 Hank Bunnell
Baseball (1968-71; Scranton, Pa.)

Named Player of the Century by current baseball Coach Tom Walter, Hank Bunnell was GW’s most dominating pitcher this century.

In his first game, he threw seven scoreless innings against Syracuse University. He would strike out 93 of the 283 batters he faced his freshman year.

His junior year, he pitched a perfect game against his hometown university, Scranton. He also won both ends of a doubleheader vs. William & Mary, striking out 18, allowing four hits and no runs.

He would finish his career 30-13, with a 1.82 earned run average and 360 strikeouts.

He holds the school records for victories (30), shutouts (8) and complete games (36). As an impressive afterthought, he also batted .344, had seven home runs and 52 RBIs.
