Temple sweeps GW in A-10s

The GW women’s tennis team lost 5-3 to Massachusetts in the consolation round of this weekend’s Atlantic 10 Tournament in Blacksburg, Va. The men’s tennis squad fell to Temple 4-0 in the quarterfinals round after GW blanked Fordham in the first. The women’s team was also swept by Temple 5-0 in Saturday’s semifinals round.

The Colonial women only won one actual match Sunday, winning the No. 6 singles and No. 3 doubles by default. Freshman No. 1 Tracy Wei defeated UMass’ Ola Gerasimova 6-2, 6-4, but the rest of the GW team fell short against their opponents. Senior Ghada Skaff lost a tough battle at No. 2 singles 3-6, 6-4, 3-6, while teammate Katarina Stastny also lost in three sets.

Temple swept GW in Saturday’s semifinals 5-0. Wei lost to Tamara Truta 2-6, 2-6 while Skaff fell to Katarina Kramaric 3-6, 3-6.

The Colonial women defeated Duquesne 5-1 in the quarterfinals round behind strong performances by Wei and Skaff. GW’s Sarine Weingarten, Susie Coggan and Stastny also won in straight sets.

GW’s Kinzie Wright and Drew Zamansky led the Colonials in the first round, winning their respective matches 6-1, 6-1. Nick Vikstrom and Mike Melen were also victorious for the Colonials.
