Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Year and freshman guard SirValiant Brown was named Honorable Mention All-American by the Associated Press Monday. Brown, who is second in the nation in scoring at 24.3 points per game, joined 26 other Honorable Mention players in addition to the 15 players named to the three All-American teams.
Last year, Shawnta Rogers also received AP All-American Honorable Mention. GW has only had one player on an AP team – Joe Holup in 1956.
– Assistant Director of Athletics Dom Perno commented Wednesday on GW’s omission from the 32-team NIT field Sunday night:
I think we were on the board initially. I think there were like 52 teams. The information that we garnered was that there were just too many teams.
No one from the NIT could be reached for comment.
– Athletic Director Jack Kvancz, a member of the NCAA Tournament Selection Committee, is working the Buffalo, N.Y. site this weekend.
