Women’s water polo goes 3-1 at JMU

The women’s water polo recovered from a poor showing two weeks ago at Princeton to take three of four at the Collegiate Water Polo Association Weekend No. 1 at James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Va.

The Colonials opened with an 8-6 loss to Maryland.

It was a game we never should have lost, said Coach Scott Reed.

GW then took a 5-0 forfeit win over the Georgetown Hoyas, who never showed up. GW finished Saturday by beating Maryland 12-6 in the fourth match between the teams this year.

We’re getting to know them too well, Reed said.

Sunday, GW topped James Madison 16-11.

It was overall a great weekend, Reed said. It was a good team effort, which was something that was lacking in our games earlier this year.

Hippos top Princeton

GW’s ultimate frisbee club, the Hungry, Hungry Hippos, played at Maryland Saturday, winning three of four.

The Hippos lost to Salisbury State University 14-11, beat the University of Deleware 13-12, Maryland 13-7 and Princeton University 13-11.

We played some of our best ultimate on Saturday, and beating a top 25 team like Princeton makes me smile, said Captain Dave Watermulder.

GW’s A-team is now 12-5.
