Looking ahead

Over the course of the past few months our campus has struggled with the challenge of implementing a fair and ethical election process. Despite internal issues between chartered organizations, we would like to publicly commend three student leaders who came together, despite their differences, to forge a fair and impartial process that was created with the best interests of students in mind.

SA President Caity Leu, Marvin Center Governing Board Chair Michael Petron and Program Board’s Executive Chair Ruth Abu Sahid worked together, in a spirit of common purpose, to build a system that was fair and worked in the best interests of the entire GW student body, hosting elections together, sharing the expenses and jointly making wise decisions. They deserve credit for making the most of a tough situation, a tight timeline, and many competing issues.

On a similar note, the staff of the Student Activities Center recognizes the need to start the new term for student organizations off right, by hosting a framework to work together. On Friday, March 31, and Saturday, April 1, we will host conferences particularly designed to establish relationships with new e-board members and begin having advisers work side-by-side the organizational leaders. We also will host a special Transition Retreat for registered student organization officers April 8 and 9 to build teamwork, communication and leadership among our next generation of campus leaders. Please join us or contact the Student Activities Center for more information.

On behalf of the staff in SAC and the students across campus who benefited from a unified, cost-effective and fair election season, we offer our congratulations to the newly elected student leaders!
