Colonials lose to WVU

The GW gymnastics team finished in second place at Sunday’s tri-meet with Rutgers University and host No. 9 West Virginia University at Morgantown High. GW junior Darden Wilee and sophomore Jessica Mantak finished third (39.025) and fourth (38.925) in the all-around, respectively. West Virginia finished with a score of 197.275 on the team’s senior day, just .075 shy of the team’s all-time high score. The Colonials scored a 194.375 and Rutgers finished with a 193.900.

GW entered West Virginia coming off a thrilling 195.625-195.475 victory Wednesday night against Towson at the Smith Center. It was GW’s second win this season over a Towson team that narrowly defeated the Colonials twice last season. GW sophomore Devin McCalla shined for the Colonials, winning the all-around with a record-shattering score of 39.550. Senior Erica Lewy finished her GW career scoring a solid 9.85 on the balance beam and in the floor exercise.

The Colonials will look to win their third Atlantic 10 Championship in as many years this Saturday at the A-10 meet in Massachusetts.
