Sports Brief

Gymnastics falls despite solid scoreThe GW women’s gymnastics team finished third in a four-team meet Friday despite posting one of the best scores in the program’s history.

GW posted a score of 194.800, trailing the University of Florida (195.900) and Central Michigan University (195.600). The Colonials finished ahead of the University of Kentucky (194.175). GW tied for the victory in one event, the floor exercise.

The score for GW came less than a week after the team set a new school record for team score, earning a 194.900 at Rhode Island. This weekend’s meet score also eclipsed the old school record of 194.650.

Sophomore Devin McCalla did not finish first in the all-around competition, a rarity for GW this season. She finished third with a 39.225, just .05 points behind the winner from Central Michigan, Bethany Couturier. No gymnasts recorded individual wins for GW.
