Colonials drop three

It was a tough weekend for the GW women’s water polo team at the Princeton Invitational. The Colonials (1-4) lost over the weekend to Ivy League opponents Brown University 17-4, and Harvard University 13-4, and fell in their final match 14-4 to Villanova University.

We were outmuscled, GW coach Scott Reed said. And the experience factor – it was a higher level of play out there.

The Colonials were without goaltender Dianna Fuller because of a back injury, and Reed said he had less than two days to train Andrea Philpot and Danielle Cormier for the position. Neither had played goaltender before. Freshman Kiersten Johnson scored five goals over the weekend to lead the GW offense.

The team started getting better as the weekend went along, Reed said.

The Colonials will have two weeks to prepare for their next match against James Madison University.
