Terps a step ahead of GW

The GW gymnastics team came up short 195.675-194.300 against Maryland Monday night at the Smith Center. The Colonials recorded their best score so far this season and their third highest in school history in front of 375 fans.

Leading the way for GW were sophomores Devin McCalla (39.175) and Darden Wilee (39.125) while freshman Christy Gerard impressed the crowd by leading all GW scorers on the balance beam with a 9.900. GW’s Kacey Coyne defeated all the competition by winning the vault with a score of 9.800.

Despite the loss GW head coach Margie Foster-Cunningham said the score is what the team needs to move onto the NCAA Regionals.

We have a lot to show still and can improve on little things like our confidence on the balance beam, Wilee said.

The Colonials will face Maryland once again at the New Hampshire Invitational this Saturday that will also feature Bowling Green University and the University of New Hampshire.
