Swimmers race at U.S. Open

Members of the GW men’s and women’s swimming teams raced at the U.S. Open in San Antonio, Texas. Mike Cottone, Richard Dewet, David Dillenhay, Jocelyn Finch, Nell Friar, Nicholas Hopman and David Simonetti competed.

Dillenhay made the 1500-freestyle final and placed 56th. Finch placed 54th in the 200-individual medley and 67th in the 400-IM. Hopman was 65th in the 100-backstroke. No other swimmer finished better than 70th.

GW gains NCAA certification

GW completed a yearlong process that included a self-study report and a campus visit by the NCAA and was granted full Division I sports certification.

The Colonials joined 13 other NCAA Division I schools to achieve certification status this month. Eventually, all 310 Division I members must undergo this process in complying with a reform agenda adopted at the 1993 NCAA Convention.
